11 FASHION PROBLEMS SHORT GIRLS WILL UNDERSTAND

On Twitter recently, I have been expressing the problems I face being a 5ft2 lady trying to buy nice clothes and appear like I am at least a little stylish! The fact I am shorter than average makes this a lot harder, so naturally I thought this would make an excellent topic for a blog post!

1) Cropped trousers don’t exist in your wardrobe.

The normal 3/4 trousers can actually pass as full length trousers on me. Sometimes, that can be a blessing in disguise though when normal length trousers just are not cutting it!

2) Sleeves are always too long

This ALWAYS happens to me! You can’t go a size down because then the actual top won’t actually fit, but then you try rock it anyway and they either get very wet when washing your hands or end up covered in food (if you’re me anyway)! Gathering of sleeves at your wrists is pretty much unavoidable for long sleeve tops.

3) Jeans, leggings, trousers… they always bunch up at the bottom

Unless I can find a petite section, with a specified length of a maximum of 28 inches, any form of bottoms will bunch from the excess length! If you try buy a smaller size in the ‘normal’ section, then nothing will fit over your bum or thighs. If by some miracle you do manage to get these on, you are sucked in beyond belief  to the point where you can’t breathe anymore. Ya just don’t need that!

4) You look like a child playing dress up in maxi dresses or long coats

I envy the girls who can wear maxi dresses / skirts and actually rock it in a chic way. It just makes me look even younger than I already look, as well as very stumpy! And longline coats or blazers? They always end up looking like dressing gowns!

5) Your tights come all the way up to your bra

There is something strangely satisfying about this as well though… anyone else feel the same?! You can tuck it under your bra so that they don’t fall down, and it sucks you in just that tiny bit more!

6) Petite sections are your only saviour

Although, the clothes in the petite section are always hella cute. So actually this isn’t really a problem, but it is when you find something really nice that isn’t included in the petite section!

7) “Oversized” brings a whole new definition when you put it on

This is sometimes so hilarious to do just to make yourself laugh. I had to buy an oversized jumper in a bloody size 4 once and even then, it was still too oversized!

8) Your boobs will pop out of shirts

I love a good fitted shirt, but even if you don’t have massive boobs, they will try to escape their prison. Go up a size and the shirt is no longer fitted, which is a massive pain in the backside! Apparently the word petite in this case means you can’t have any shape to your body otherwise it just won’t work with a smart shirt!

9) Flared trousers of any form look ridiculous

They are the most comfiest trousers, but my god do I look silly when I wear them. Granted if I was more fashionable / cool I could probably get away with it, but you have to admit mostly, us short girls look hilarious with them on!

10) Wearing heels is an absolute must

If you go OUT out, you always end up being too short to see over the bar and end up looking ridiculous amongst all the stunning tall people. So, you have to use your shortness to your advantage – heels for life! Although, heels never save me from getting ID’d no matter where I go so bringing ID is another absolute must!

11) What comes down to the floor on the model will be at least five inches too long for you

Shopping online is such a pain because they always use models who are at least 5ft8! Smart trousers, jeans or leggings will ALWAYS gather at the ends unless you can find a version for us petite ladies!

BUT…

If you have kid sized feet, you save money on trainers by being able to buy them from the kids section! As always, you have to look on the bright side of life – that is my bright side!

What other fashion problems have you experienced being a short girl?

Yes yes yes! This so speaks to me being a 4ft11 girl! Life is a struggle being so petite, but it does have it perks like buying kids shoes and saving money on them like you mentioned xx

I literally face all of these problems – I’m 5ft with a size 14 booty. Difficult isn’t the word for shopping! 100% agree about the kids trainers, I got some Nikes for £27 the other day, WIN.
